ACADEMIC CLASSROOMS

Kindergarten
Going to kindergarten is an important step for your child. It will help them learn skills that they will build on throughout their life. In kindergarten your child will grow socially and emotionally. Their ability to think, use and recognize language and their fine motor skills will be developed through play, art, dance, music, movement and interacting with others.
First Grade
1st grade is a year of important transitions; children leave behind much of the play of preschool and kindergarten and dive into developing deeper academic skills. 1st graders progress from having beginner reading and writing skills to becoming beginning readers and writers, as they read and write more with greater comprehension and ability.
Second Grade
In 2nd grade, students have adjusted to the more rigorous learning environment they initially encounter in 1st grade and so they are able to further deepen and expand their skills and knowledge. In 2nd grade they become more experienced writers, readers and mathematicians as they practice these skills more and in more complex and comprehensive ways. They read longer and more complicated books, they write longer and more complex pieces and they learn more of the concepts underlying the math they do. In addition, 2nd graders begin to develop their research and critical thinking projects as they create individual and group work to share and presenting what they learn through different forms, including writing, speaking, and art.
Third - Fifth Grade
Third through Fifth Grades are exciting years of development as children become scholarly and learn to explore the world more independently using very specific critical thinking skills. At SeA, Third through Fifth Grades utilize a block schedule among three teachers in a "pod": Mrs. India Garcia-Morel in Science & Social Studies, Mrs. Erin Prevatte in Math, and Mrs. Jennifer Whitley in English Language Arts. We are truly blessed to be given the chance to work with students each and every day. It is our desire to instill a love of learning that will outlast your child’s school years! For all things pod-related, check out our shared sites and links below.
Sixth-Eighth Grade
Preparing for middle school is a crucial point in a lifetime of learning. While elementary school focuses on the student, and high school solidifies his skills, middle school is when your child will decide how important education is to him. Middle-school lessons will not simply teach facts — they will also teach how these facts carry over into real life. Long-term interdisciplinary units will call for creative, agile thinking. Block scheduling (a series of longer class sessions spread over a one- or two-week period) will let your child immerse himself in complex, multi-dimensional topics.
